Queensland Adventure Activity Standards

This page provides details of the Queensland Adventure Activity Standards (AAS). The AAS are the minimum, voluntary guidelines on how to conduct 15 outdoor recreation activities. The AAS cover aspects of safety, planning, environment and equipment. The adventure activity areas covered by the AAS are listed below.

The AAS also outline the recommended skills and qualifications required by activity leaders. The list below links through to the equivalent units of competency required for each specific area. Background

In 2004, the Sport and Recreation Ministers' Council endorsed a proposal for each State and Territory to institute its own variation of the Adventure Activity Standards (AAS).

Accordingly, AAS are being established in each state/territory as minimum voluntary guidelines.

The Council of Australian Government meeting in November 2008 will be finalising an intergovernmental agreement that in part will facilitate a consistent skills base for licensed and regulatory activity through the use of training package qualifications and units of competency.

The Queensland Adventure Activity Standards have been developed by the Queensland Outdoor Recreation Federation on behalf of the Department of Local Government, Sport and Recreation.
