Campaign to prevent falls in construction
![]() |
Falls from height cause a significant number of deaths and injuries within the construction industry each year. Falls prevention has therefore become a priority focus area for Australia's workplace safety authorities.
Workplace authorities throughout Australia have embarked on a campaign to prevent falls in the construction industry, particularly in small and medium-sized projects. The campaign, which will be completed in December 2008, has both compliance and education phases.
Similar to the 2004 'Falls Prevention in Construction' campaign, the project aims to achieve its purpose through an inspector-delivered operational compliance project. Around 900 site inspections are being conducted across Australia during February and March as part of the campaign's compliance phase.
All health and safety regulators produce publications and guidance material which is available in printed form or as electronic documents on their websites. They can also be contacted for general falls prevention advice.
