Extra licensing inspectors for the Northern Territory

The Northern Territory Government has announced the appointment of twelve new licensing inspectors within Racing, Gaming and Licensing, with two of the inspectors to be located in Katherine and another in Tennant Creek.

While carrying out a full range of liquor-related programs, the new licensing inspectors will also engage with community organisations, service providers and industry to deal with emerging issues.

The inspectors' liquor-related duties include:

  • inspections of licensed premises
  • monitoring and regulating liquor sales and consumption
  • investigating non-compliance complaints and disputes
  • prosecuting offenders.

The specifically tailored approach to alcohol and regulation in the various regions of the Northern Territory has led to the need for the extra licensing inspectors. The appointment of the inspectors has been made, with assistance from the Commonwealth, as part of the Northern Territory Government's Closing the Gap initiative.
