WorldSkills Australia National Competition to be held in Sydney

WorldSkills Australia National Competition, Australia's largest and most prestigious trade and skills showcase, is to be held at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour from 11 to 13 July 2008.

The competition is a three-day national event where over 500 young people from all regions of Australia vie for the title of Australian National Champion in their chosen trade.

The event attracts a wide range of visitors from the vocational education and training sector, along with visitors from high schools, industry and the community.

Australia's best young skilled trainees and apprentices compete under the one roof in up to 50 categories, testing and benchmarking their skills against their peers.

The event concludes with a presentation ceremony, where each competitor is congratulated and the medal winners recognised. The state which has shown the most outstanding performance is presented with the Evatt Shield.

The medallists of the WorldSkills Australia National Competition are considered the country's best in their field. Many return home with offers of employment and media recognition.
