Dangerous goods licensing course

Dangerous Goods Competent Authorities across Australia are working to harmonise training arrangements for licensing in concert with the introduction of the seventh edition of the Australian Dangerous Goods (ADG7) code.

At present there are no units of competency within training packages that address the requirements for dangerous goods driver licensing under the ADG7.

Accordingly, the Competent Authorities have jointly developed the Course in the Transport of Dangerous Goods by Road (30744QLD), which is accredited in Queensland, and its associated documentation, to meet the training requirements for driver licensing.

Under the proposal to use 30744QLD, registered training organisations (RTO) will need to have a signed licensing agreement with the Competent Authority in their jurisdiction before they can purchase the course from the distributors.

The licensing agreement outlines the obligations of the RTO in relation to the course and includes any special conditions that are over and above Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) requirements.

RTOs will need to apply to have the course included on their scope once they have obtained a licensing agreement.

Productive working relationships between the licensing authorities and state training authorities have been developed to ensure the delivery of dangerous goods driver licensing meets the requirements of both agencies.

More information on the proposed use of the Course in the Transport of Dangerous Goods by Road (30744QLD) will be available in upcoming editions of Licensing Line News.
