QLD site supervisor licensing transition period ending soon
The Queensland Building Services Authority introduced the Site Supervisor Licence in December 2007 with a 12 month transitional period to give anyone already working as a site supervisor the opportunity to become licensed, without jumping through any additional hoops.
Experienced site supervisors who apply during the transitional period can get a licence without needing formal qualifications. All that is needed is a declaration from their employer stating that they are an experienced site supervisor.
To get a licence, the employer must declare that:
- the applicant has carried out building work as an officer or employee of the contractor for a period of at least 12 months
- the contractor has had an opportunity to assess the skills of the applicant during the period
- the contractor is satisfied that the applicant has the skills to carry out the duties of a site supervisor for the class of licence applied for.
Supervision includes:
- ensuring that the work is free of defects and complies with all relevant Standards and the Building Code of Australia
- ensuring that all work complies with the plans and specifications.
Site Supervisor Licences obtained through the transitional provision can only be issued in the same class as that held by the employer.
The licence was designed to improve supervision on building sites.
To obtain a Site Supervisor Licence after 19 December 2008, the applicant must hold the relevant technical qualification of that licence class.
