WHS accredited course to be updated in QLD
Workplace Health and Safety Queensland has developed a new unit of competency for inclusion in 30630QLD Course in Functioning as a Health and Safety Representative to cover training requirements for the issuing of Provisional Improvement Notices.
The Workplace Health and Safety and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2008 provides for qualified Workplace Health and Safety Representatives (WHSRs) to issue Provisional Improvement Notices (PINs), where they reasonably believe, that a person is contravening or has contravened a provision of the Workplace Health and Safety Act 1995 or regulation in circumstances that make it likely that the breach will continue or be repeated.
In order to issue PINs, a representative must have completed a training course approved by the Chief Executive that includes training in the giving of PINs. The new unit is now part of the amended 30630QLD course.
To allow WHSRs who have already completed 30630QLD to meet this new legislative requirement, registered training organisations (RTOs) will be able to deliver the new unit as a standalone course. For prospective WHSRs without the approved training they must complete the amended 30630QLD course.
RTOs or prospective RTOs wanting to deliver the standalone PINS course must undertake the following steps:
Step 1: Obtain licence to deliver course
Licence for delivery is available through application to:
Licensing Services
Workplace Health and Safety
LUTWYCHE QLD 4030
Ph: 1300 369 915
Fax: 07 3872 0629
Email: licensingcomplianceservices@deir.qld.gov.au
The licence outlines the requirements on RTOs in relation to delivery of the PINS course and the right of audit by Workplace Health and Safety Queensland.
Step 2: Obtain approval to deliver course
Approval is granted on the basis that the RTO has 30630QLD Course in Functioning as a Health and Safety Representative on their scope of Registration.
