Status of AQTF 2010 standards

On 3 December 2009, the National Quality Council (NQC) endorsed key changes to the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) Essential Standards for Registration. The Council of Australian Governments (COAG) met on 7 December and endorsed the NQC's amendments.

Initial advice from the NQC to the vocational education and training sector was that the revised standards would be implemented by March 2010. However, questions raised about the new AQTF 2010 Standards and their implementation are currently being worked through and the Ministerial Council for Tertiary Education and Employment (MCTEE) is yet to consider the proposed amendments and endorse a revised set of standards.

The amended standards will not be implemented from March 2010. In the meantime, registered training organisations (RTOs) must continue to comply with the current AQTF Essential Standards for Registration.  RTOs will be informed by their relevant State Training Authority of the implementation arrangements for the revised standards as soon as they are available.
